Students in grade eight study the different elements and the types of reactions they undergo in the Chemistry portion of our class. Students will work with different substances to experience firsthand the physical and chemical changes they undergo. In addition, students will be introduced to the periodic table and begin to use it for their scientific development. After students have learned the chemistry of living things, they will move into the Physics portion of Physical Science. Students will learn how different variables affect different factors such as speed, acceleration, velocity and energy. As a culminating activity, students will create their own race cars using their knowledge of forces and motion to build a car that will go the furthest and quickest. By conducting different experiments, students will develop their skills in scientific experimentation, investigation, and analysis.

    Welcome {http://www.wikispaces.com/i/edit_nopermission.png} Protected
Learning Teams are small, intact groups of students formed at the beginning of each quarter / trimester. Teams meet each week to facilitate learning, to study together, and to complete group assignments and projects. Students are required to attend team meetings.
Learning Teams are generally comprised of between 4 members. Research with Learning Teams suggests that they work best when they are made up of 4 or 5 members. We will determine the group size based on the number of students in the course and will form these groups during our first week.
Students are expected to determine the location for their learning team meeting each week during the class session. During the first Learning Team meeting, team members should collaborate together in completing the Learning Team Charter. This exercise will help the team to plan for effective achievement of team tasks, establish ground rules, and minimize conflict in the team process. Team members should sign the charter indicating that they assisted in the preparation of the form. Each team member should receive a copy and a copy should be submitted to the instructor.
Each quarter / trimester, each Learning Team must complete a Learning Team Log, documenting each member’s attendance at the Learning Team meeting. Non-attendance or attendance for less than the required scheduled time of Learning Team meetings by any student will be considered during the grading process for that student.
